Birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, weddings, just because... These are all exciting things to be celebrated!
But I get it. In today's world, it's difficult to get fired up about anything. We can't see our friends and family, the kids are home driving you crazy, you're having a hard time finding a babysitter or your working from home and you can't get any peace and quiet. Times sure have changed. We know the feeling. Working from home has become the new normal around the Balloon Man camp too!
We've also been forced to pivot our business to serve folks in completely new ways. It's no longer business as usual - and that's a great thing!
Have you found yourself becoming complacent in your day to day activities?
Has scheduling time for personal growth been challenging, yet work continues to pile up?
Do you ever feel like screaming at the top of your lungs and pulling out your hair?
No, don't worry, this is not an ad to sell you some self-help nonsense. What this is is an acknowledgment that we are all having a hard time dealing with the current situations in different ways.
"The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday."
Can I be honest? I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes. I've never been one to follow trends and keep up with the Jones's, whoever they are. I've always kinda danced to the beat of my own drummer. I've always found something that works and kept going with it, until, one day it doesn't work anymore. Then, I'm scrambling for new ideas and new ways to make things work.
Well, now, I've been forced to look at things in a new light. I've seen that insanity, doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result, doesn't work. I've been extremely insane over the past few years. It's time to end that! It's time for all of us to end that! We need to recognize that there are a lot of things we are all insane about. We are all beating our heads against the wall about something, trying to make sense of everything that's going on in the world today. Stop! Try something new!
I'm thankful that my wife asked me one day, "why can't we do something like that?", when a friend of ours posted a DIY cookie decorating kit on her Facebook page. In that question the Balloon Boredom Buster was born. Since then, we've done events for drive-by graduation ceremonies, drive-by birthday parties, yard number displays, we've begun delivering balloon bouquets, and experimenting with "new-to-us" balloon decor styles. All of this because of Covid-19. All of this because God said, "push yourself to do more". We now have about 15 different offerings in our business, when before spring break we only had about 3.
About 3 months ago, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, weddings, and just because, were out of my scope. It was not something I did much of in my business. Now, I love it! I love coming up with new ideas. I love collaborating with our clients to make their dreams a reality. I'm certainly not downplaying Covid-19 and the negative effects, including death, it has had on so many millions of families. My heart is broken for all of them. However, I am thankful that our family has not experienced any of the illnesses from it. In fact, it has cured us of illness - an illness of laziness and complacency. It has forced us to be better and strive for more.
I urge you to look deep inside and ask yourself how you can be better from this. I get it! It's a depressing time we're in. But good can come out of it if you allow it and work for it.
